OOTD & The Camo Kilt

Short and sweet today...

Buffalo floral shirt $4.00 thrifted  >>> retail $69.00
Mossimo skinnies $5.34 >>> retail $22.90
Gap yellow ballet flats $4.59 >>> retail $39.95

Money saved on this outfit: $117.92

Thrifting is a good idea.

On that note, I went to a thrift store this past weekend...and I met a middle-aged man wearing a camouflage kilt. He had red hair and an obvious propensity for long drawn out conversations, he apparently made the kilt himself.

It took 20 solid minutes to escape, that's all for now.

I'm still recovering.

Vintage Radio Cabinet Flip

This is probably my favorite thrift store find to date

Total project cost: $12.00 ish?

The radio cabinet/record player was $7.00 at the thrift store, and the change is a rough estimate of what I think I might have used in materials i.e. paint and stain.

I started out with this...

gold/cream combo, not my favorite.

You need:

Oil based primer
Sandpaper
Latex or oil-based paint in the color of your choice
Stain
A few brushes/rollers - don't use a nice brush with the stain, you'll most likely have to toss it. Same with the oil based paint or primer, unless you just enjoy messy, frustrating, fruitless cleaning.

Step 1: Remove the hardware from the furniture and sand down the surface, use a fine grit so you don't put scratches in the piece. The point is to knock off that first slick layer on the furniture so paint will stick. Wipe down the furniture with a damp cloth to get the sanded dust off. The sanding step isn't necessary if you're starting out with raw wood.

Step 2: Tape off the speakers.

Step 3: Prime your piece with either an oil based primer, if you're working with sealed furniture - or with a water based primer if you furniture is still just raw wood. Allow it to dry...

Step 3: Pick your color and paint away, I used a satin finish BEHR paint in Hosta. Let it dry...

Step 4:

Grab a paint brush you're not too attached to and paint a coat of stain on, wiping it back off with a rag as you go. It works best for me to do this in portions, take it one step at a time allowing the stain to get into the edges and details in the furniture - watch for drips! Allow it to dry.

Step 5: Reattach hardware and enjoy your revamped furniture!

Tuesdeay Leist eee

I've been bundled up for the last two days, flannel, leggings, mismatched socks, whatever I can get my hands on to warm up a little - it's been a real fashion week here at my house. For real. eeee

As you may have noticed, my keyboard has started enthusiastically interjecting the letter "e" whenever it pleaeeeeeeses. It is an exercise in frustration to write eveeeeeen the shortest sentence. eeeeeeeee

I don't eeven have to hit the "e" key for it to come blundering into my sentences, I think it just gets overeager and feels the need for some love. Nice one. ee

So here are some favorite things right now...

1. This look...

Like my white paint spot? After a weekend full of painting, I think my skin is finally paint free now...it took a lot of scrubbing.

2. This lamp...

I think it's mighty nifty and with a bit of sprucing up it'll look right at home.

$2.00 thrift find.

3. Before and afters...

Radio cabinet re-do coming up soon...

$7.00 thrift find

4. Short hair...

I'm actually sort of enjoying it....My thick hair delusions have come crashing unceremoniously down and I've determined that no matter how much Biotin I take, this is not in my future. Now that that's been established, I actually sort of like the short hair thing. Sort of.

Well, would you look at that! The rest of this post appears to be free of the overly exuberant "e" key... blessings upon us.

Peeeeeace out,

Rae
